Track 10: Managing Human-Machine Teams
Human-machine collaboration refers to the interaction between humans and automated technologies working together to achieve a shared objective. This collaboration can take many forms, such as workers and robots jointly operating on the same production line or human experts reviewing and refining the outputs of AI and machine learning models. These collaborations leverage the strengths of both humans and machines to enhance productivity and decision-making.
This track will explore the evolution of human-machine teams through various stages of interaction. From basic cooperation in production processes to more advanced partnerships where AI systems are continuously trained and refined by human input, we will examine the key factors that drive success and the challenges that arise in these collaborations. Given this context, we invite papers that specifically (though not exclusively) address the
following issues and questions:
• Examining human performance in Collaborative Human-Machine Teams.
• Proposing management strategies that balance the tensions between automation and human involvement, ensuring both efficiency gains and the well-being of the workforce.
• Exploring the relationship between AI and skills, considering whether AI replaces or complements human capabilities.
• The role of work-life balance in human-machine collaboration, focusing on how task augmentation and automation can impact employee well-being, productivity, and overall
job satisfaction.
• Identifying the new competencies and complementary skills required for effective collaboration in human-machine teams, with an emphasis on building trust.
